TEHRAN – Ali Asghar Mahaki, Managing Director of Tehran-based Hamshahri daily, called 31st meeting of the Executive Board of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) and 25th meeting of the OANA’s editorial and technical group a logical solution to challenge the West’s media dominantion.

The summit will be hosted by Tehran-based Mehr News Agency from Nov. 13-17 at the Enghelab Hotel in Tehran.
“In order to reach its deserved regional status, Iran should take full advantage of the opportunity created by OANA meeting,” he said in an interview with the Mehr News Agency reporter.
The flow of information over past decades has always been unbalanced and one-sided from the West to developing countries, he stated.
To change the current situation, developing countries should set up their independent and national news agencies or expand their existing ones, he added.
